Martha Niquille

Martha Niquille (born August 27, 1954 , also Marta Eberle or Marta Niquille-Eberle ) is a Swiss lawyer . She has been Vice President of the Federal Supreme Court since 2016, and President of the Federal Supreme Court from 2021. Niquille is a member of the CVP .

Niquille studied in St. Gallen . In 1982 she obtained her doctorate with a thesis on the subject of the constitutional problem of co-determination in companies and operations. 1984 she was admitted to the bar .

Professional activities

Niquille worked from 1979 to 1981 as an assistant at the University of St. Gallen . From 1984 to 1988 she worked as a lawyer in St. Gallen. At the same time and subsequently, she worked as a lecturer at the University of St. Gallen from 1987 to 1992 and as a part-time judge at the Cantonal Court of St. Gallen. Afterwards and until her election as federal judge on October 1, 2008, she was a full-time judge there, from 2005 to 2007 as president. Since 2016, Niquille has been Vice President of the Federal Supreme Court. On December 12, 2018, it was approved by the Federal Assemblyconfirmed as Vice President for another two-year term. On December 16, 2020, she was elected Switzerland's first female President of the Federal Supreme Court.
