Arecibo is a port city on the north coast of Puerto Rico .
In the district of Arecibo, 15 km south of the city, is the famous Arecibo observatory , location of the films GoldenEye and Contact . In the vicinity of Arecibo is also a launch site for sounding rockets , from which numerous sounding rockets of the types Nike Apache , Nike Javelin , Nike Iroquois , Nike Tomahawk , Black Brant , Terrier Orion and Taurus Orion have been launched since 1966 .
