The total solar eclipse of December 14, 2020 largely takes place over the South Pacific and the South Atlantic . For the observation of the eclipse it is favorable that the maximum of the eclipse occurs while the umbra sweeps the south of the South American continent. The maximum of the eclipse can be observed in the province of Río Negro in Argentina. The duration of the total phase is 2 minutes and 10 seconds. Overall, the weather outlook in the totality zone of the early summer South American continent in mid-December is not bad. In Chile, a cloudiness probability of around 45% is to be expected. In a narrow band in the slipstream of the Andes on the Argentine side, there are cloudiness probabilities of a little under 30%, which then grow to sometimes over 40% towards the Atlantic.
