The solar eclipse of October 25, 2022 is a purely partial eclipse, so the earth is only hit by the penumbra of the moon. The eclipse begins near Iceland , the penumbra then moves southeastwards, whereby an eclipsed sun will be seen in almost all of Europe. North Africa is just about reached by the penumbra of the moon, in the north the day-night border of the beginning polar night limits the visibility area. The penumbra moves in the course of the darkness to the western part of Asia and just reaches India .
The maximum coverage can be seen in the Khanty and Mansi Autonomous Okrug, also known as Ugra, east of the Urals in the West Siberian lowlands , where a little more than 82% of the sun will be covered by the moon.
Visibility in German-speaking countries
After the solar eclipse of June 10, 2021 , which was only 16 months ago , another solar eclipse can be observed in German-speaking countries. However, the coverage is only moderate. The largest eclipse is in the northeast, in Sassnitz on the island of Rügen , with a maximum of 35.3% coverage. The lowest eclipse is achieved in the southwest, in Zermatt in Switzerland , with a maximum of 15.7% coverage.
