  • Abuja / Nigeria : The state electoral commission announces the postponement of the presidential and parliamentary elections from February 14th to March 28th due to security concerns. The gubernatorial and regional elections in the 36 states will be postponed from February 28 to April 11 for the same reason. In the weeks leading up to the elections, an African Union reaction force is to free the northeastern areas of the country from the grip of the terrorist militia Boko Haram .
  • Baghdad / Iraq : Immediately before the planned lifting of the night curfew in the Iraqi capital, at least 32 people were killed in a series of attacks there.
  • Bratislava / Slovakia : A referendum on a ban on same-sex marriages fails due to insufficient participation of 21% of eligible voters. A 50% voter turnout would have been necessary for success. 90% of the voters vote against gay marriage.
  • Gao / Mali : In the Gao region in eastern Mali, fighting flares up between various groups of Tuareg rebels and militias loyal to the government. It is about the control of trading locations and routes.

  • Kramatorsk / Ukraine : At least 15 people are killed and 63 others are injured in several rocket attacks on the city of Kramatorsk.   • Taipei / Taiwan : The Minister for Relations with Mainland China , Wang Yu-chi, resigns after allegations that his former deputy has disclosed state secrets to the People's Republic of China.

  • Caracas / Venezuela : The Venezuelan secret service Sebin arrests the opposition and dissident mayor of the capital, Antonio Ledezma . According to the statement of the left-wing populist President Nicolás Maduro, he will answer for his “offenses against the constitution and against peace in the country”. A few days ago, Ledezma signed a resolution aimed at ending the economic crisis.
