  • Canberra / Australia : Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Chinese President Xi Jinping sign a far-reaching free trade agreement between their countries. This provides for trade facilitation, especially in the agricultural and service sectors, and Chinese import duties for coking coal are also eliminated. On the Australian side, there are reservations among the population about easing Chinese investments.
  • Ouagadougou / Burkina Faso : A committee made up of representatives of the military as well as religious and political groups appoints the diplomat and former Burkinabe foreign minister Michel Kafando as the new interim president. In this way the military is handing over power to a civilian, even under international pressure. A transitional constitution came into force the day before. Kafando is to prepare new elections in the next twelve months.
  • Shanghai / China : The Shanghai Stock Exchange is opened to foreign market participants.

  • Jerusalem / Israel : In an attack by militant Palestinians on a synagogue in western Jerusalem, five people die and several are injured. The assassins are shot by security forces.
  • Madrid / Spain : The Spanish parliament is in favor of recognizing Palestine as a state.
  • Tokyo / Japan : The Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe announces the dissolution of the lower house and the associated early elections, which will probably take place on December 14th. With a new mandate, he hopes that political and economic reforms will continue. The latter is intended to fight deflation .
