Gregory Reid Wiseman (born November 11, 1975 in Baltimore , Maryland , USA ) is an American astronaut .

In the US Navy

Wiseman joined the US Navy in 1997 . At the Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida he was trained as a marine pilot until 1999, after which he served on the Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia, where he also completed two missions in the Middle East. From 2003 to 2004 he was trained as a test pilot at the United States Naval Test Pilot School , then he served as a test pilot and project officer on the Naval Air Station Patuxent River , in South America, again in Oceana and once again in the Middle East.

Astronaut activity

Wiseman applied to NASA and was elected to the 20th astronaut group on June 29, 2009. He completed basic training in May 2011. In January 2013, Wiseman was assigned to ISS expeditions 40 and 41 as a flight engineer. The launch with the Soyuz TMA-13M spacecraft took place on May 28, 2014. Wiseman carried out two space exits: on October 7 with Alexander Gerst and on October 15 with Barry Wilmore . He returned to earth on November 10, 2014. From July 21 to August 5, 2016, he worked as an aquanaut during the NEEMO 21 mission on board the Aquarius underwater laboratory.

Private

Wiseman is married and has two daughters. His hobbies are golf , education , woodworking and running .
