- Accra / Ghana : At a conference in the Ghanaian capital, eleven African health ministers discuss the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, which has ended fatally in 468 cases among 763 people.
- La Paz / Bolivia : The National Congress in Bolivia decides that child labor is allowed from the age of 10 years. Approval from the child and youth protection authority is required; the minimum age for employment is 14 years. 850,000 working children are decriminalized and given the rights of adult workers. President Evo Morales is expected to enact the Código Niña, Niño y Adolescente .

- Sloviansk / Ukraine : Government troops retake Sloviansk. The city was considered the center of pro-Russian protests and had been under the control of separatists since mid-April.

- Mexico City / Mexico : A severe earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 shook the region around southern Mexico and Guatemala . In addition to a lot of property damage, four people are killed.

- Tripoli / Libya : Rival heavily armed militias attack Tripoli International Airport , which is controlled by the Sintan Brigades after the civil war in Libya in 2011 . The airport had to be closed. According to the Libyan government, 90 percent of all aircraft and the tower are damaged.
- York / United Kingdom : The General Synod of the Church of England decides to admit women to the office of bishops .

- Fortaleza / Brazil : The heads of government of Brazil, Russia , India , China and South Africa come together for the 6th BRICS summit. The BRICS countries have been exposed to an outflow of investment capital since 2013/14. A BRICS reserve fund is agreed at the summit, starting with a capital of 100 billion US dollars.
- Strasbourg / France : The European Parliament elects Jean-Claude Juncker ( EPP ) from Luxembourg with 422 of 751 votes to succeed José Manuel Barroso as the new President of the European Commission .

- Hrabowe / Ukraine : A Boeing 777-200ER of Malaysia Airlines flight 17 crashes in eastern Ukraine . There were 283 passengers (including 189 Dutch) and 15 crew members on board the aircraft . The plane was, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs with an air missile type Buk M1 ( NATO Code shot SA-11 Gadfly). The region was already overshadowed by the 2014 crisis in Ukraine .
- Palmyra / Syria : Fighters from the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) attack the natural gas field east of Palmyra and kill 90 soldiers, security personnel and plant workers.

- Dresden / Germany : In a serious traffic accident on the federal highway 4 with two coaches from Poland and Ukraine and a minibus, ten people die and over 39 are seriously injured.
- Mosul / Iraq : The jihadist-Salafist terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) uses an ultimatum to force thousands of Christian residents to exodus one of the oldest Christian communities in Iraq . Refugees had their valuables removed at checkpoints. The houses of the last 25,000 Christians in the city are marked with an N for Nasara , a term used in the Koran for Christians.

- Pensacola / United States : A jury in the US state of Florida sentenced the US tobacco company RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company to pay $ 16 million in damages to the widow of a smoker who died of lung cancer in 1996 and to pay a fine of US $ 23.6 billion Dollars, because the tobacco company deliberately failed to explain that smoking causes lung cancer and that nicotine is highly addictive , even though the company was aware of this effect. - London / United Kingdom : The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) announced at a summit meeting ("Girl Summit 2014") in London that more than 700 million girls of the world were forcibly married , including 250 million women under the age of 15. In addition, 130 million women worldwide are affected by genital mutilation . This practice continues to be a tradition in 29 Arab and African countries.

- Beit Hanun / Palestinian Territory : 15 people, including seven children, were killed and several injured in an artillery attack by the Israeli Defense Forces on a United Nations- run school in the Gaza Strip . So far, over 170,000 people in the Gaza Strip have fled to schools run by the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA) for protection.
- Gao / Mali : 50 minutes after the start is a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 of the Air Algérie - leased by the Spanish Swiftair - on the flight AH5017 from Ouagadougou to Algiers crashed near the city of Gao. - Strasbourg / France : The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has found the state of Poland guilty of illegally detaining two terror suspects for the US foreign intelligence service, the CIA . The stateless Palestinian Zayn Al-Abidin Muhammad Husayn and the Saudi citizen Abd Al Rahim Hussayn Muhammad Al Nashiri remain in the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base detention center . The Court considered it proven that both prisoners from 2001 to 2003 in the Black site in Stare Kiejkuty tortured were (so-called " enhanced interrogation techniques ").
- Taji / Iraq : At least 54 prisoners are killed in an attack by suicide bombers and several armed men on a prisoner transport from Taji to Baghdad.

- Bishkek / Kyrgyzstan : The Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev , who was in office from 2005 to 2010 , has been sentenced to life imprisonment in absentia for the violent crackdown on anti-government protests in April 2010, in which 77 people were killed. Bakiyev has lived in exile in Belarus since April 2010 . His brother Shanibek Bakiyev, the former head of state personal protection, was sentenced to life imprisonment and his son Maxim Bakiyev was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment for money laundering.
- Syria : A first aid convoy of the United Nations according to UN resolution 2165 , coordinated by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), crosses the border to the civil war country Syria with nine trucks from Turkey . It is supposed to provide the civilian population in Aleppo and Idlib with food, tents and water treatment equipment.

- Canberra / Australia : The Australian government under Prime Minister Tony Abbott approves the planned Carmichael coal mine of the Indian Adani Group (named after Gautam Adani) in the state of Queensland . The mining project costs 16.5 billion Australian dollars (11.5 billion euros) and is expected to produce around 60 million tons of coal annually. The coal is to be shipped to India via the seaport in Abbot Point .
- The Hague / Netherlands : The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) awards the former shareholders of the Russian oil company Yukos , which was declared bankrupt in 2006, with compensation from the Russian state totaling 50 billion US dollars (the equivalent of 37.2 billion euros).
- Gaza Strip / Palestinian Autonomous Territories : At least eight children were killed in a rocket hit a playground at the Al-Shati refugee camp on the Mediterranean coast.
- Jerusalem / Israel : The Israeli Defense Forces call on the civilian populations of Jabaliya , Schedschaija and Zeitoun in the Gaza Strip to flee the locations via SMS cell phone messages. Previously, at least four Israelis were killed in a Palestinian attack with mortar shells.

- Tripoli / Libya : During the fighting between rival militias, around 10 km from the capital, a rocket hit a six million liter fuel tank of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) and set it on fire. The fire has meanwhile got "out of control", according to the oil company. According to the NOC spokesman Mohammed Al-Hrari, other oil and gas tanks could explode, including an adjacent natural gas storage facility with a total capacity of more than 90 million liters.
