National Oil Corporation ( NOC ; Arabic المؤسسة الوطنية للنفط, DMG al-muʾassasa al-waṭaniyya li-n-nafṭ ) is a Libyan state-owned company with headquarters in Tripoli . The company was founded in 1970. Of the NOC's subsidiaries, Waha Oil Company (WOC) is the largest oil company, followed by Arabian Gulf Oil Company (Agoco), Zuetina Oil Company (ZOC) and Sirte Oil Company (SOC).

The National Oil Corporation produces more than three quarters of Libya's 1.6 million barrels of crude oil production per day (as of February 2011).

Situation of the National Oil Corporation during the 2011 uprising in Libya

On March 10, an Agaco spokesman stated that the NOC subsidiary with headquarters in Benghazi had joined the insurgents and that the proceeds from the oil produced would be given to the opposition National Transitional Council . The oil terminal in Tobruk , east of Benghazi, could serve as the loading port .

About Shukri Ghanem , the chairman of the NOC, told Al Jazeera he was "fled" on 17 February. After Ras Lanuf was retaken by the Libyan military on March 12, AP reported that he had asked the Italian oil company Eni SpA to help put out a fire at the refinery there.
