Friday 1st August 2014
- Kaohsiung / Taiwan : At least 26 people were killed in severe gas explosions in the streets of Qianzhen district . More than 270 people are injured and over 1,100 residents have been asked to leave their homes. Numerous houses and cars were destroyed or seriously damaged by the pressure waves.
- Moscow / Russia : The Russian government bans the import of vegetables and fruit, especially apples, from Poland .
- Rafah / Palestinian Autonomous Territories : According to the spokesman for the Palestinian rescue forces, Aschraf al-Kudra, more than 62 residents are killed and another 350 injured in an Israeli artillery attack. Since July 8, 2014, over 1,500 Palestinians and 66 Israelis, including 63 soldiers, have died in the clashes between the Israeli Defense Forces and the Sunni - Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas .
- Tores / Ukraine : Around 70 experts from Australia and the Netherlands have reached the crash site of the passenger plane of flight MH17 and recovered further remains of the victims. Assistance is also provided by observers investigating the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

- Arsal / Lebanon : After a Syrian rebel leader is arrested, an uprising begins in Arsal . It was not until August 9 that the Lebanese security forces regained full control of the city.
- Kunshan / China : At least 75 people die and 185 are injured in an explosion in a metalworking factory .
- Mankha / Nepal : A landslide buries numerous houses and dams the Sunkoshi River . As a result, upstream areas in Nepal and the Indian state of Bihar have to be evacuated. At least ten people are killed, around a hundred are missing.
- Mannheim / Germany : When a freight train collides with a EuroCity in front of Mannheim main station , 35 passengers and crew members are injured, four of them seriously.

- Ludian / China : At least 398 people die and around 1,800 are injured in an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 M w in the province of Yunnan .
- Sinjar / Iraq : The Islamic State perpetrates genocide against the Yazidis .
Monday 4th August 2014
- Conakry / Guinea : In connection with the spread of the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, the World Bank has promised the affected states Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone emergency aid of up to 200 million US dollars.
- Lisbon / Portugal : On August 4, 2014, it became known that the bad loans of Banco Espírito Santo are to be outsourced to a bad bank . The rest of the profitable part of the bank has been trading as Novo Banco since that day. This receives 4.9 billion euros in financial aid from the Portuguese state . There will no longer be a listing on the stock exchange. From a legal point of view, however, the bank continues to operate as Banco Espírito Santo.

In the fighting since July 8, 2014, 1,875 Palestinians and 67 Israelis have been killed.
- Kabul / Afghanistan : During a visit by a high-ranking delegation to the grounds of the Marshal Fahim National Defense University, a training facility of the Afghan National Army on the outskirts of Kabul, an Afghan soldier opens fire on the group of visitors with a machine gun in Camp Kargha. US Major General Harold J. Greene is fatally wounded in the attack. The German Brigadier General Michael Bartscher and the Afghan General Ghulam Sakhi as well as another 15 US soldiers are wounded.
- Munich / Germany : The case against Bernie Ecclestone for bribery is the Munich District Court I of § 153a Code of Criminal Procedure (around 74.65 million euros) against the payment of a cash circulation in the amount of 100 million US dollars set .

- Milwaukee / United States : The IT security company Hold Security reveals that a Russian hacker group from the Novosibirsk area illegally obtained around 1.2 billion user names and passwords.

- Freetown / Sierra Leone : President Ernest Koroma orders several hundred soldiers to be sent to the border regions because of the Ebola epidemic - also to monitor compliance with quarantine regulations in hospitals. Between 1700 and 4 August reported and confirmed cases in West Africa, more than 930 people died, most of them in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea .
- Monrovia / Liberia : President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf declares a state of emergency for the capital for 90 days under Article 86 of the Constitution because of the Ebola epidemic . Police officers and soldiers seal off all access roads.
- Moscow / Russia : Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a year-long import ban on numerous goods and foods from the EU , the USA and Canada .
- Mosul / Iraq : Fighters from the terrorist group Islamic State (IS) conquered Baghdida (Karakosch), Tilkaif (Tel Kaif), Bartella and Karamlesch to the southeast of Mosul . Over 200,000 Christians from the Chaldean Catholic Church , the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch and the Assyrian Church of the East are on the run. In addition, the IS fighters are around 40 km from Erbil , the seat of the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan . Tens of thousands of Yazidis are persecuted and around 800 have fled to the Turkish border town of Silopi . The United Nations Security Council holds an emergency meeting at the request of France .
- Novosibirsk / Russia : A march for federalism in Siberia planned by artists is banned by the Russian government. In the event of media coverage of the planned action, censorship and the shutdown of websites will be announced.
- Phnom Penh / Cambodia : In a trial on the crimes of the Khmer Rouge has the Khmer Rouge Tribunal functionaries Khieu Samphan and Nuon Chea , among other things because of crimes against humanity, sentenced to life imprisonment.

- Ankara / Turkey : For the first time, the President of the Republic of Turkey is not elected by parliament, but by a general election . For the co-founder of the Justice and Recovery Party, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan , 51.8% of the electorate voted.
- Tehran / Iran : In Tehran, a turboprop passenger plane operated by the Iranian Sepahan Airlines crashed shortly after take-off. 10 out of 48 passengers survived. The machine was on a domestic flight.

- Seoul / South Korea : The mathematicians Maryam Mirzakhani (Iran), Manjul Bhargava (Canada), Artur Avila (Brazil) and Martin Hairer (Austria) are awarded the Fields Medal at the 2014 International Congress of Mathematicians .

- Paris / France : France wants to deliver weapons to the Kurds in northern Iraq today to support them in the fight against the terrorist group IS. By order of President Hollande, the delivery of weapons will begin in the next few hours, the "Elysée Palace" announced in a written declaration. The action was coordinated with the government in Baghdad. The reason given is that there was an urgent request from the Kurds for support.

- Kocho / Iraq : The Islamic State carries out a massacre of the Yazidis in Kocho . IS is killing the men from the village and kidnapping the women and children.
- Berlin / Germany : A response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior to the MP Andrej Hunko ( Die Linke ) shows that work on the so-called Federal Trojan has been completed. A solution for source telecommunication monitoring is "currently in the implementation phase after completion of the architecture work".
- Hildesheim / Germany : Hildesheim Cathedral reopened after four and a half years of renovation.

- Monrovia / Liberia : With a flight from the account of the Ebola fever under quarantine standing district West Point least 17 escaped ill people. Meanwhile, 1,145 infected people in West Africa have not survived the virus.
- Mosul / Iraq : Kurdish troops succeed in recapturing large parts of the Mosul Dam in northern Iraq from the Islamic State Organization and bringing them under their control.
- N'Djamena / Chad : Chadian troops rescue 85 Nigerian hostages from the Boko Haram who were dragged across Lake Chad on motorboats and taken across the border to Chad.

- Zurich / Switzerland : The most successful nation at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich's Letzigrund Stadium was the United Kingdom with 23 medals, including twelve gold medals. The most successful athletes with two titles each were the Dutch sprinter Dafne Schippers and the British long-distance runner Mo Farah .

- Kathmandu / Nepal : Floods and landslides caused by heavy rain kill over 160 people in Nepal and northern India .

- Al-Ba'aj / Iraq : The 'Islamic State' publishes in an internet video the beheading of the US journalist James Foley , who was believed to have been killed in the desert areas in northwestern Iraq. This video announces further kidnappings and killings if the United States continues to attack militia positions.
- Gaza / Palestinian Territories : Hours before the end of a truce bombard the Qassam Brigades of Hamas Israel with rockets. Israel responded with retaliatory attacks.

- Luhansk / Ukraine : During fighting against units of the People's Militia , the Ukrainian Army captured two tanks that were apparently part of the Russian Army . Russia continues to deny its military presence in eastern Ukraine .

- Luhansk / Ukraine : An aid convoy of 287 trucks that has been stuck on the Russian- Ukrainian border for days crosses the border without the consent of the Ukrainian government. The targets are the strongholds of the separatists, Luhansk and Donetsk . In Kiev, there are fears not only of the transport of aid supplies but also of arms deliveries. One day later the trucks return to the Russian Federation.

Russia officially denies this. Ukrainian armed forces are now preparing to defend the city of Mariupol . Meanwhile, the pro-Russian separatists admit that they are receiving direct aid from Russia. The approximately 3,000 to 4,000 Russians on the side of the separatists are volunteers.

- Helsinki / Finland : Finland and Sweden plan to sign so-called host nation support agreements with NATO . This would enable military and civilian support for allied or friendly NATO forces in Finland and Sweden, which have hitherto been militarily neutral. Russia warns both countries against joining NATO.
- Moscow / Russia : The Russian Justice Ministry classifies a group of soldier mothers as foreign agents in order to make it difficult for them to access information about the army such as the whereabouts of their sons. - Dresden / Germany : In the state elections in Saxony , the CDU under Prime Minister Tillich becomes the strongest force with almost 40%. The previous ruling party, the FDP, fails at the 5 percent hurdle. The NPD narrowly missed this, while the AfD, with the top candidate Petry , achieved almost 10% from a standstill, thus moving into a state parliament for the first time and becoming the actual election winner. The turnout is only 49.2%. The CDU wins all constituencies except Leipzig II, which Die Linke conquered.
- Hong Kong / China : The leadership of the People's Republic of China would like to use a loyal election committee to select the candidates for the next elections in Hong Kong in 2017, who will then be presented to the population for election. This means a setback for the democracy movement there. There is now a threat of new protests.
- Macau / China : The head of government of the Macau Special Administrative Region , Fernando Chui Sai-on , was confirmed in a controversial vote by the election committee for a further five-year term.
- Mogadishu / Somalia : In a military offensive, the Somali armed forces and troops of the African Union succeeded in conquering the city of Bulomarer , which was previously controlled by the radical Islamic Shabaab militia, 160 kilometers southwest of the Somali capital. Meanwhile, an attack by the Shabaab militia on the intelligence center in Mogadishu has failed.
