Jabaliya ( Arabic جباليا Jabāliyā , DMG Ǧabāliyā ), also Jabalia or Jabalyia , is a city inthe North Gaza Governorate , in the northern Gaza Strip . The place had about 3500 inhabitants in 1945.

Jabaliya refugee camp

After the Palestine War in 1948, the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA) set up a 1.4 km² refugee camp in the north of the city for around 35,000 people. In 2005 , 106,691 people were registered in the refugee camp in which the First Intifada began in December 1987 .

Jabaliya lay on the Sinai Railway from Beirut via Lod to Cairo from 1916 until the section concerned was closed in the 1970s or 1980s (until 1967). Today most of the railroad tracks in the Gaza Strip have been dismantled.
