Tex Rubinowitz (2014)

Tex Rubinowitz (born December 5, 1961 in Hanover ; actually Dirk Wesenberg ) is a German draftsman , painter , cartoonist , travel journalist and writer . He has lived in Vienna since 1984 .

Life

Tex Rubinowitz spent most of his childhood and school days in Lüneburg . After dropping out of school in 1978, he worked in various professions, including as a dairy worker and as a file carrier for the Lüneburg district government. In 1982 he did his military service with Marinefliegergeschwader 2 in Tarp . During this time he was trained as a parachute packer. In 1984 he moved to Vienna, where he began studying art with Professor Oswald Oberhuber . However, he broke this off after a week and began to draw for the moth . Rubinowitz published the American Hospital Newspaper fanzine at the end of the 1980s , which appeared at the same time as the much better-known Berlin fanzine Ich und mein Staubsauger . There was a lively transfer of authors between the two publications (e.g. Max Goldt ). Through a recommendation from Robert Gernhardt , Rubinowitz came to Haffmans Verlag in Zurich, where he a. a. edited two issues of the periodical Der Rabe and collaborated on other issues . He placed the authors Mauri Antero Numminen and Joachim Lottmann with the publisher . As an actor he worked a. a. with Kurt Palm and Hermes Phettberg and played a supporting role in the 1995 American film Before Sunrise , which he wrote himself. With Gerhard Potuznik he founded the band Mäuse . Both also run the Angelika Köhlermann music label . Rubinowitz is a co-founder of the Polite Paparazzi Internet forum .

As a cartoonist he published or published regularly in Falter , Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung , Der Standard , Titanic , Kurier , Spiegel Online . As a travel journalist, he publishes regularly in Falter and in the travel magazine, which is also published in Vienna . Rubinowitz is also a regular contributor to the collective weblog Riesenmaschine . For the Viennese company Trześniewski he drew the cartoons for the “unspeakably good” advertising campaign. Rubinowitz is also a co-author of the newly launched ORF television program Willkommen Österreich , which has been broadcast since May 2007, where he also appeared weekly until 2008 as Frank Baumann, the man in the closet . Since 2015 he has been reviewing new releases of popular music on Spiegel Online in the Abgehört section .

Since 2010 he has been curator of the exhibition series In the drawing room at the Christine König gallery in Vienna. Since 2011 he has been writing art glosses for the newsletter of the art platform Lower Austria Contemporary at irregular intervals .

In 2014 he was awarded the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize for his text We were never here .

On January 30, 2015, his article Der Mozart among the texts on the phenomenon of Vossian Antonomasia appeared in the magazine of the Süddeutsche Zeitung . He had taken many of his examples without citing the source from the feature blog Der Umblätterer , which in turn had collected such examples without identifying the source over several years. In addition, he had taken over a definition of antonomasia verbatim and without labeling from Wikipedia. In the discussion that followed, Rubinowitz promised to donate half of his fee to the Wikimedia Foundation .

On August 18, 2015, two of the operators of the blog Die Umblätterer stated in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that Rubinowitz had taken over many excerpts from Wikipedia articles almost word for word in his work Irma . Since these takeovers, in contrast to other sources, are not shown in the “quite small list of sources”, it is plagiarism .
