Joachim Lottmann
Joachim Lottmann (born October 6, 1956 in Hamburg ) is a German writer and journalist .
Life
Lottmann was born in Hamburg- Hochkamp and spent his childhood in the Belgian Congo . When he was 13, his family moved back to Hamburg, where Lottmann studied theater history and literature from 1976. Lottmann is considered a representative of German pop literature . His debut novel May, June, July from 1987 was voted one of the "most important German books of the last 20 years" by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung in 2003 . From 2005 to 2006 Lottmann worked in the culture department of Spiegel .
style
A striking feature in Lottmann's prose is the ironic "praise to death" in the style of played simplicity. Lottmann did this in numerous articles about the SPD and Gerhard Schröder in the taz ("This man was like no other: Germany.") And with constant references to Christian Kracht in his novel German Unity .
Lottmann cultivates a casual approach to facts not only in his literary but also in his journalistic work: “For example, if you read what Lottmann writes about bands or concerts, it may well be that names, places, times and events are incorrect . Lottmann is concerned, consciously or not, with something else: with holding onto a diffuse zeitgeist, a feeling that is in the air. "
