Oswald Oberhuber (born February 1, 1931 in Meran , South Tyrol , Italy ; † January 17, 2020 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter , sculptor and graphic artist .

Life

Oberhuber first learned sculpture from 1945 to 1949 at the Federal Trade School in Innsbruck . Subsequently Oberhuber was at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna student of Fritz Wotruba and at the Academy in Stuttgart by Willi Baumeister . In 1972 Oberhuber was the Austrian representative at the Venice Biennale . In 1964/65 he was artistic advisor to the gallery next St. Stephan , which he took over from Otto Mauer in 1973 and headed until 1978. Oberhuber took part in documenta 6 in 1977 and in documenta 7 in 1982 . In 1973 he was appointed professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, of which he was a member until his retirement in 1998. From 1979 to 1987 and from 1991 to 1995, he was the rector of the university. Oberhuber exhibited object furniture, drafts, drawings (1989) and painting (1992) twice in the Vorsetzen gallery .

The Stuttgart Academy made him an honorary member in 1982 and an honorary senator in 2004.

He was buried at the Hietzingen cemetery .
