Giant Machine is a collaborative weblog operated from 2005 to 2012 . The giant machine is operated by the Central Intelligence Agency , a “capitalist-socialist joint venture with the aim of establishing new forms of collaboration.” A network of correspondents (including Kathrin Passig , Tex Rubinowitz , Sascha Lobo , Holm Friebe , Aleks Scholz , Christian Y. Schmidt , Michael Brake , Kai Schreiber ) commented in the giant machineDevelopments and inventions in various fields (including developments in science and culture, social trends and new products).
Selected contributions were published in 2007 in printed form as a book.
No editorial contributions have been published since the end of 2012. There is now only one regular “automatic cultural review” on the website, in which cinema films are rated by machine based on statistical information; it also serves as a sales platform for fan articles.
Awards
In 2006 the giant machine received the Grimme Online Award for Culture and Entertainment for concept and editing. The reason for the award said: “ Giant machine is something like a blog with a crease: Formally of almost perfect clarity, the concept shows itself brilliantly in the attempt to maintain classic journalistic quality and at the same time to move productively away through texts of sometimes acrobatic virtuosity to go to this classic journalism. "
In the same year, the giant machine received media attention when author Kathrin Passig won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize .
In 2007 the giant machine received the Erik Reger Prize (sponsorship prize) from the Rhineland-Palatinate Future Initiative. The jury justified the award of the prize with “the outstanding literary representation of the modern world of life and work”.
