Christian Y. Schmidt (* 1956 in Bielefeld ) is a German journalist and author. The "Y." is not part of his birth name, but rather an initial that was added later to distinguish people with the same name.

life and work

Schmidt was editor of the satirical magazine Titanic from 1989 to 1995 . He works as a freelance writer, u. a. for the Berliner Zeitung , specifically , taz and Jungle World and writes for the blog Riesenmaschine . He has published several humorous and satirical books with other Titanic authors, as well as texts on left politics and East Asia. Since 2003 Christian Y. Schmidt has lived with his wife, who comes from Beijing, mainly in East Asia, initially in Singapore and since 2005 in Beijing . In 2018 his first novel The Last Huelsenbeck was published.
