The Trześniewski [ tʃɛɕɲˈɛvskʲi ] is a Viennese restaurant chain that mainly serves rolls ( canapés ), spreads and desserts . The company headquarters and production facility have been located in Karl-Tornay-Gasse 34 in the 23rd district since autumn 2007 .
history
In 1902 , Franciszek Trześniewski (born August 3, 1878, † November 13, 1949) from Krakow opened a snack bar at Tiefen Graben in the 1st district . He later moved to Dorotheergasse 1, diagonally across from Café Hawelka . The First World War and the collapse of the monarchy brought hard times for the company. Trześniewski reduced the portions to keep business going. His daughter Maria took over the business around 1939 and managed to make the shop a popular meeting place after the Second World War . She also launched a package business that allowed customers to take the rolls home with them. She led the company until 1978.
Trzesniewski Demmer Handelsges.mbH , founded on November 28, 1980, is currently 100% owned by the managing partner Andrew Demmer. The Trzesniewski brand is operationally managed by Demmer GmbH , which also includes the Demmers tea house founded by Andrew Demmer in 1981 and the furniture depot he also founded (selling antique Asian furniture ).
Products and locations
The company processes around 600 kilograms of black bread and 1000 kilograms of spreads per day. Every year around four and a half million rolls are sold using one and a half million eggs. 18 of the 22 types of spread (as of September 2009) have been in the company's range since the very beginning. The recipes for the spreads are secret. The most popular types are bacon with egg, herring with onion, and poultry liver. For the 2008 European Football Championship , bread rolls with spreads in the Austrian national colors of red-white-red were developed. The red was created with a Peppadew spread, the white with Kren-Gervais spread. These rolls were so popular with customers that they have remained on offer all the time. Among other things, the “whistle” is served in the bars, which - unlike the unit of measure whistle - corresponds to an eighth liter of beer .
There are Trześniewski branches in seven Viennese districts, the brand enjoys a high recognition rate among the Viennese and is practically an institution. The black and white advertising cartoons with the stick figures and the slogan “Trześniewski - The unspeakably good bread rolls” were drawn by the illustrator Tex Rubinowitz . In a humorous way, the problem of pronouncing the name Trześniewski only correctly based on the spelling is addressed, "Tschesnjewski" with a mute "r", which is reminiscent of a "Hatschi".
Trześniewski works with the Aida confectionery chain in the sale of sweets. There is also a catering service for company parties, weddings or birthdays.
