Albrecht Wakenitz (born July 13, 1558 in Klevenow ; † March 26, 1636 ) was a German legal scholar, university chancellor and ducal official in Pomerania .

Life

He came from the line of the von Wakenitz family based at Castle Klevenow . He was the second son of Casper (or Jasper) von Wakenitz and his wife Margarethe von Eickstedt . He studied first at the University of Greifswald , later in Rostock , Wittenberg , Leipzig and finally in Tübingen . In 1574 he became a canon at the Camminer Cathedral .

He was appointed to the University of Greifswald in 1585 as an associate professor of law. Duke Ernst Ludwig von Pommern-Wolgast appointed him to his court in Wolgast the following year . In 1590 the duke appointed him to the state archivist and ducal council and captain of the offices of Grimmen and Tribsees . His memorial address given at the Duke's funeral in 1592 was printed. In 1599 he was appointed cantor of the Cammin monastery and received a prebend for it . In 1603, he recommended to Duke Philipp Julius to turn away from the farm management of the ducal estates, which brought in too little income, and to return to the older tax rule . The attempt to reorganize the estate economy evidently did not get beyond a draft.

From 1605 he was active in state affairs and attended several diets . On behalf of Duke Philipp Julius, he was involved in the negotiations for the inheritance contract with the city of Stralsund between 1611 and 1615 . He also had a share in the Greifswald civil contract. 1614 he was the proposal from the estates to the district administrator appointed. In 1620 he was a member of a joint sovereign and rural estate commission that visited the Greifswald pious foundations .

In the years 1616 and 1617 as well as 1620 and 1621 he was Prokanzler of the University of Greifswald. In 1627 he led the visitation of the university and was involved in that of the pedagogy in Stettin as well as the court court. From 1601 he donated a scholarship to the university for poor students ( Stipendium Wakenitzianum ) and bequeathed 500 florins to the university in addition to his library. Further donations were made to churches, preachers and poor institutions in Cammin , Grimmen, Görmin , Klevenow, Sassen and the Greifswald orphanage.

He was married to Margaretha von Rotermund , the widow of Godecke von der Osten . After Albrecht Elzow , Anna von Dechow was his wife. His daughter Anna married the district administrator Venz (Vincenz) Hermann von Blücher on Daberkow .

After his death, he was buried in the family's hereditary funeral in the St. Marienkirche in Grimmen.
