Aida (notation in the company logo: AIDA ) is a company incorporated in 1913 Austrian Café - Confectionery - chain . The company's head office is at Schönthalergasse 1 in the 21st Viennese district of Floridsdorf .

history

Josef Prousek, born in Držkov in North Bohemia in 1883 , went on a journey after completing his training as a confectioner and began to work as a journeyman for a Viennese master confectioner. In 1912 he married the butcher's daughter Rosa Nerad. In 1913, the Prousek couple bought the Bonsaing confectionery in the 9th district of Alsergrund , which they renamed Chocolaterie u. Large confectionery "AÏDA" Prousek & Co reorganized.

Before the start of the Second World War , Aida had already operated eleven branches. In the post-war period, major orders were also carried out for the occupying powers, including an order for several hundred cakes for the Red Army . Donuts and ice cream were made for the American Red Cross . The branch on Wollzeile in downtown Vienna was reopened in 1948 and, due to the La Carimali espresso machine used here, was Austria's first café-confectionery with an espresso machine.

In 1976 the production facility in the 21st district of Floridsdorf started operations. In 1980 the company received the state award and has been allowed to use the federal coat of arms in business transactions ever since . In 2003, Michael Prousek, the founder's grandson, took over sole management. In 2006 the company was awarded the Golden Coffee Bean by Gault-Millau and Jacobs.

There are currently 28 Aida branches in Vienna as well as one branch each in Groß-Enzersdorf , Vösendorf , at Vienna Airport and, since 2018, one in Innsbruck (Tyrol).

In addition to coffee and chocolate, the AÏDA range includes a wide range of tarts, cakes and other traditional confectionery products such as Esterházy torte , Linzer torte , Sacher torte and Gugelhupf . The company also operates international online shipping of its products.

The corporate design of Aida is colored primarily by Rosa worn, what of the facades of the stores to the uniforms of the waitresses, the so-called Aida Ladies , enough. The design comes from the architect Rudolf Vorderegger, who designed the branches until the 1980s. A company newspaper is also published with the A eigeneDA-Melange .

The company's founder, Josef Prousek, was an admirer of the composers Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini . In 1913 he finally decided in favor of Aida in the course of restructuring and renaming his company between the operas Aida and Tosca . One of the main reasons for this was that the first open-air opera performance in Vienna took place on the Hohe Warte sports field . Pietro Mascagni conducted the opera Aida at the spectacle on a 50 meter wide and 35 meter deep stage with 200 choir members and 700 extras .
