The Hohe Warte is a built-in hill at 214  m above sea level. A. in the 19th district of  Vienna , Döbling , between the districts of Heiligenstadt and Unterdöbling . The road leading to the hill from the north (Grinzinger Strasse) and south ( Döblinger Hauptstrasse ) is also known as Hohe Warte; this took place officially in 1894. The name was mentioned in a document as early as 1135.

The Hohe Warte is best known as the headquarters of the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (which is also called Hohe Warte after its address ), the official villa of the Austrian Federal President that used to be here, and its natural stadium Hohe Warte .

Beginning in 1901, Josef Hoffmann built an artists' colony on the Hohe Warte for wealthy clients. First of all, a semi-detached house for Koloman Moser and Carl Moll was completed at address 19., Steinfeldgasse 6 and 8 . The loop of the northern terminus of a tram line has been located here since 1903 , from 1907 to the present day line 37, which starts at Schottentor on Ringstrasse (1st district), and from 1928–1980 (with interruptions) also the line 37 via the two-way line in the 3rd and 3rd districts 2nd district operating line G 2 .

The Hohe Warte is the last branch of the ridge from the Vienna Woods , which stretches from the Cobenzl ( Latisberg ) via Grinzing and the Hungerberg towards the Danube Canal . It is separated to the north by the Nesselbach (Grinzing and Heiligenstadt ) against Nussdorf and the Nussberg , and to the south-west by the Sieveringer Arbesbach from the Türkenschanze .

Hence the name, the same used to wear even today Türkenschanze - - In the 19th century was built on the prospect of a high residential area . Today the hill is completely in the middle of the city.

In 1872 the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics moved from Wieden to Hohe Warte. The new quarter was previously built by Heinrich von Ferstel between 1870 and 1872. Among other things, the institute is responsible for the daily Austrian weather report . In 1957 it was expanded considerably; in 1967 and 1973 a radar tower , a balloon filling house and a new office building were also built on the premises of the Central Institute. This office building now houses a large specialist library in the field of meteorology and geophysics.

The Döblinger Bad is located on the Hohe Warte, both an outdoor pool and an indoor pool . Furthermore, the Hohe Warte is the seat of the Döbling Police Department with affiliated organizational units and an affiliated police station .

The Hohe Warte can be reached with the U4 and the tram lines  37 and D.
