Eldar Alexandrovich Ryazanov
Eldar Alexandrowitsch Rjasanow ( Russian Эльдар Александрович Рязанов , scientific transliteration Ėl'dar Aleksandrovič Rjazanov ; born November 18, 1927 in Samara ; † November 30, 2015 in Moscow ) was a Russian film director .
Life
Eldar Ryazanov was born in Samara in 1927. He attended the Directing Faculty of the State Cinematography Institute of the Soviet Union . After completing his studies, he worked in the Central Documentary Film Studio (Zentralnaja Studija Dokumentalnych Filmow) and made numerous documentary and landscape films, including the film The Sakhalin Island ( Ostrow Sakhalin ), which won an award in Cannes in 1955 . In addition to his work as a director , he was also a writer, songwriter, screenwriter and television presenter. In the Soviet Unionand its successor states, he was best known for his popular comedies, which show a satirical view of Soviet and Russian everyday life. The best-known here include Irony of Fate from 1975 with Andrei Mjagkow and Barbara Brylska in the lead roles as well as Bahnhof for Two from 1982. Although only one of his films had been banned by the censors, he told after 1991 how feared him dominated the authorities. In the final phase of his life he had opposed the tendency towards totalitarianism in Russia and supported the “Congress against War, Self-Isolation and Totalitarianism” and condemned the military intervention against Ukraine.
