Nika

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nika ( Russian: Ника ) is the most important Russian film award. It has been awarded annually in Moscow since 1988 , the trophy is a modern version of the winged Nike of Samothrace . The Nika award not only met with lively media coverage in Russia, but also in numerous other CIS countries .

history

The price was a child of glasnost politics. The founder was the Union of Filmmakers in the Soviet Union. First, all union members voted on the winners. An elected jury has been responsible for selecting the winners since the early 1990s.

First of all, films that dealt with the Stalinist past received awards, including many that had been banned from the censors to the archives for decades. Various Russian directors around the award winner Nikita Michalkow later criticized the selection process. They accused the jury of paying too much attention to personal relationships and founded the Golden Eagle competition .

The price categories are diverse and have changed several times since 1988 or new categories have been added. For example, the best film in the post-Soviet region has been awarded since 2003, and there are also special prizes that change with each Nika award. The award ceremony will be broadcast live on television, the rights for this are currently held by Perwy kanal .
