Stanislaw Sergejewitsch Goworuchin ( Russian Станислав Сергеевич Говорухин ; born March 29, 1936 in Berezniki in Sverdlovsk Oblast , today Perm region ; † June 14, 2018 in Barwicha ) was a Russian cinema director and politician .

Career

Goworuchin studied geology at the University of Kazan until 1958 . From 1959 to 1961 he worked in the Kazan television studio. After this time he enrolled at the directing faculty of the WGIK film school . In the Soviet Union, Goworuchin was recognized for his successful TV adaptations of classics such as Robinson Crusoe (1972), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn (1982), The Children of Captain Grant (1983) and The Last Weekend (1987, based on Agatha Christies And Then There Were None ). He also directed three films with Vladimir Vysotsky : Sturm an der Steilwand ( Вертикаль , 1967), White Explosion ( Белый взрыв , 1969) and The Black Cat / The Predetermined Meeting ( Место встречи изменить , 1979, one of the нел films) the late Soviet era. From 1987 to 1993 he held the post of director of the film company " Mosfilm " and was a member of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR .

After perestroika , Goworuchin went into politics. He became one of the leaders of the Russian Democratic Party . In 1990 he directed the well-known documentary So you can't live and was awarded the Nika Prize for Best Director. At that time, Goworuchin published a detailed interview with Alexander Solzhenitsyn .

Goworuchin had been a member of the Duma since 1993 and temporarily headed the cultural committee there. After the Russian constitutional crisis in 1993 , he gave up his previous anti-communist attitude and joined the national communist opposition. In 1996 he supported Gennady Zyuganov against Boris Yeltsin in the second round of the presidential election. In 2000 he took part in the Russian presidential elections himself , but received only 0.44% of the vote. In 2005 he stood as a candidate for United Russia in the by-elections for a direct mandate in the State Duma, which he won with 38% of the vote. One of his competitors in this election was the journalist and satirist Viktor Shenderovich , who accused him of using illegal campaign media. In November 2011, at the United Russia Congress, he was the first speaker to propose Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's candidacy in the March 2012 presidential elections. He also complied with Putin's request to lead his election campaign.

In 1999 he returned to the cinema with the feature film Der Voroshilov-Schützen . Goworuchin has directed eleven feature films and four documentaries, has written numerous screenplays and several books. He has also appeared in a number of films.

On June 12, 2013, he was elected co-chair of the Central Staff of the All-Russian Popular Front for the next five years .

Private life

Goworuchin was married for the second time. His second wife Galina is also a director. His son Sergej comes from his first marriage. In his youth, Goworuchin was a mountaineer. He played roulette , chess and billiards .

His friends included the politicians Boris Gromow , Alexander Ruzkoi , Oleg Morozov , the singer Iossif Kobson , the directors Nikita Michalkow , Sergei Bondarchuk and the painter Alexander Schilow .

The asteroid (4430) Govorukhin is named after him.
