When a touring theater comes to town, she sees her chance. Mamlakat misses the theater performance, but is seduced that same night in the dark by the pilot Yassir, who pretends to be an actor, without knowing what is actually happening. When she later finds out that she is pregnant, she does not know where and who the father is.

Mamlakat embarks on an adventurous journey to determine the identity of her child's father and to force him to marry her. Father and brother insist on accompanying her so that her name and honor may be saved. On the journey through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in an old car full of chickens, the family meets various bandits and the charming marriage swindler Alik, who pretends to be the seducer in the dark and falls in love with Mamlakat.

Reviews

Jan Distelmayer: “At first glance, Luna Papa, a kind of adolescence fairy tale from Central Asia, and the Hollywood drama Magnolia, which was produced at the same time, separate worlds in every respect, and yet they are miraculously connected to one another through the laconic onslaught of the fantastic . […] What develops from now on has so much speed, imagination, absurd humor and loving accuracy, as if Emir Kusturica, Monty Python and Václav Vorlicek (three hazelnuts for Cinderella, how should you drown Dr. Mracek?) Had gotten together to create a new fairy tale from the Arabian Nights. [...] The utopia, the impossible or in other words: the cinema comes into effect in both films [Magnolia, note] when everything seems to be at an end. "

The film screened in numerous European countries, where it reached a total of around 600,000 visitors - most of them in Germany, where 175,000 visitors saw the film, as well as in France and Italy, where more than 125,000 people each visited the film. A little more than 20,000 people saw the film in Austria and Switzerland. No visitor numbers are known from the co-producing country Russia.
