The Tbilisi International Film Festival ( Georgian თბილისის საერთაშორისო კინოფეატივალი ) is the most important film festival in Georgia . It takes place annually in October in the Georgian capital Tbilisi .

history

The first two festivals in 2000 and 2001 initially took place as part of the "International Festival of the Arts" in Tbilisi (GIFT). In 2002 the film festival became an independent institution.

The organizer of the Tbilisi International Film Festival is the Cinema Art Center “Prometheus”. The main partners are the Berlin International Film Festival . It is supported by the National Center for Cinematography , the Filmmakers' Union, the City of Tbilisi, the Ministry of Culture and the Goethe Institute .

The aim of the Tbilisi International Film Festival is to promote the art of film, to encourage the Georgian film industry and to establish contacts with professionals from other countries.

The festival shows around 50 feature , documentary and short films . It is divided into the categories “International Competition”, “Forum of European Films”, “Georgian Panorama”, “Documentary Films”, “Retrospectives” and “Special Performances”.

Ten films are nominated for the competition. Three juries will select the best film for the Golden Prometheus Film Award and the best director for the Silver Prometheus Award . There is a three-member international jury, a FIPRESCI jury and a Parajanov jury.

Master classes for film students are held as part of the festival .
