Pyotr Nikolajewitsch Mamonow ( Russian Пётр Николаевич Мамонов ; born April 14, 1951 in Moscow , Soviet Union ; † July 15, 2021 there ) was a Soviet or Russian rock musician, songwriter and actor .

Life

As the leader of the Moscow band Swuki Mu , Mamonov was one of the few rock musicians from the former Soviet Union who was recognized abroad in the 1980s. In Western Europe he worked with Brian Eno . During these years he began to work in films and over the course of a decade to produce and stage several one-man theater performances for himself. These performances also include an absurd alienation of the play The Marriage Proposal by Anton Chekhov with the title Is there life on Mars? or the Chocolate Pushkin , in which he refers to the poet Alexander Pushkin refers without quoting from his works.

In the early 1990s, Mamonov turned to the Orthodox faith , moved away from Moscow and lived in a village. He returned to Moscow in 2006 and 2009 for further filming with Lungin.

Mamonov died in hospital as a result of complications from COVID-19 . Two weeks before his death, he was awarded the Order of Friendship .
