Euregio Rhine-Maas-North

The Euregio Rhine-Maas-Nord ( Dutch Euregio Rijn-Maas Noord ) is a European region in the German - Dutch border area on the Rhine and Maas . The region was founded in 1978 as a voluntary working group, since 2004 it has been a public-law special purpose association under German law. In the north, the Euregio Rhine-Maas-Nord borders on the Euregio Rhine-Waal , with which it partially overlaps (in the Kleve district). In the south it borders on the Euregio Meuse-Rhine with the Aachen-Maastricht-Liège area.

Around 1.8 million people live in the Euregio Rhine-Maas-Nord. With an area of ​​around 3400 square kilometers, it is the most densely populated Euregio on the German-Dutch border. The largest cities in the Euregio Rhine-Maas-Nord are Mönchengladbach with around 266,000 inhabitants, Krefeld with around 242,000 inhabitants, Neuss with around 152,000 inhabitants and Viersen with around 76,000 inhabitants. The largest Dutch municipalities in the working area are Venlo with around 100,000 inhabitants, Weert and Roermond with around 50,000 inhabitants each.

Fields of work

The fields of activity of the Euregio Rhein-Maas-Nord include economy, labor market, infrastructure and transport, but also public safety, social-cultural networks, language and culture, environment and nature as well as tourism. For example, for German-Dutch cooperation in these areas, funding can be applied for through the INTERREG program of the European Union . Another important task of the Euregio is advising cross-border commuters in a monthly citizen consultation hour. The tourism project 2-Land was founded in 2003 to improve marketing for excursion and holiday traffic .
