John Michael Cryan (born December 16, 1960 in Sunderland , County Durham , United Kingdom ) is a British bank manager . He was CEO of Deutsche Bank from July 1, 2015 . On April 8, 2018, he was replaced from this position with immediate effect.

Life

John Cryan graduated from Cambridge University in 1981 with honors and a Master of Arts (Hons) degree ( which, as is common in Cambridge, is a bachelor’s degree that converts to a master’s degree without further academic examination will still remain an undergraduate degree).

After working as a chartered accountant at Arthur Andersen LLP , Cryan moved to SG Warburg in London in 1987 , where he learned banking from Henry Grunfeld. In September 2008 he was appointed Chief Financial Officer of the Swiss UBS Group Europe , responsible for the Middle East and Africa . In May 2011 he left UBS for personal reasons. In January 2012, Cryan moved to Singapore and joined the investment company Temasek Holdings as President for European Operations.

From 1992 he specialized in strategic and financial advice to a wide range of companies in the financial services sector worldwide. In the first half of 2015, he played an active role in advising the UBS Board of Directors and Group Management on issues relating to the global financial crisis .

Cryan has held several supervisory board mandates, including the British hedge fund Man Group .

In addition to his main role as Co-Head of Portfolio Management & Strategy Group , Cryan was also Chairman of the Audit Committee on the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank from 2013 .

On July 1, 2015, Cryan and Jürgen Fitschen succeeded Anshu Jain as CEO of Deutsche Bank . From May 20, 2016 he was sole director with an annual salary of 3.8 million euros when Fitschen left .

On April 8, 2018, the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank appointed Christian Sewing as CEO with immediate effect . Cryan left Deutsche Bank on April 30, 2018, his contract should have run until 2020.

John Cryan is fluent in German.

He is for the abolition of cash.
