Wilfried Guth

Wilfried Guth (born July 8, 1919 in Erlangen ; † May 15, 2009 ) was a German bank manager. He was a nephew of Ludwig Erhard .

Life

He was born the son of Karl Guth (1889–1971), managing director of the Reichsgruppe Industrie und Rose, sister of Ludwig Erhard . After graduating from high school in 1937, Guth did military service and was also used as a soldier in World War II . As a first lieutenant , he was taken prisoner by the Soviets , from which he was released in 1949.

He studied economics at the universities in Bonn , Geneva , Heidelberg and the School of Economics in London . In 1957 he received his doctorate as a student of Erich Preiser at the University of Heidelberg with the dissertation The export of capital to underdeveloped countries .

In 1953 he started at the Deutsche Bundesbank . There he became head of the Economics and Statistics Department in 1958 . In early 1959 he became Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund in Washington. In the Reconstruction Loan Guth was 1962 board member. In 1968 Guth moved to Deutsche Bank as a board member . He was responsible for international business. After the departure of the previous board spokesman Franz Heinrich Ulrich , Guth was appointed board spokesman together with Friedrich Wilhelm Christians in 1976.

In 1985 Guth resigned from the Board of Management and was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank until 1990.
