Hans Ley

Hans Ley (born July 31, 1954 in St. Wendel ; † July 16, 2015 in Homburg ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and president of the Saarland state parliament from 1999 to 2015 .

education and profession

After acquiring the secondary school leaving certificate in 1972, the technical college for social affairs and the technical college entrance qualification followed in 1974. Ley then studied at the Catholic University of Social Work until 1978 , where he graduated as a social worker. From 1979 to 1982 he was diocesan advisor to the Christian Workers' Youth (CAJ) before he subsequently became managing director of the CDU parliamentary group in Saarbrücken town hall.

Ley was married and had a son. He lived with his family in St. Wendel. Ley died on July 16, 2015 at the age of 60 after a long and serious illness in the Saarland University Hospital in Homburg.

Political party

Ley was from 1973 to 1986 a member of the state executive committee of the Junge Union . He was deputy state chairman for seven years. From 1979 to 1985 he was district chairman of the Junge Union St. Wendel. From 1983 he was a member of the CDU state executive. From 1985 to 1987 he was a member of the federal board of the Junge Union Deutschland. From 1989 he was chairman of the CDU in the St. Wendel district, from 1985 a member of the state parliament and from April 1999 to September 1999 first vice-president of the state parliament. From September 29, 1999 until his death, he was President of the State Parliament.

Other offices

Hans Ley was chairman of the interregional parliamentary council and member of the board of trustees of the University of Social Work, chairman of the board of trustees of the Luisenthal Bergmannshilfswerk foundation and chairman of the association “Wir im Verein mit dir”. Ley was a choirboy in the choir of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Mauritius (Tholey) , the Tholeyer Boys Choir . The choir was founded in 1950 and dissolved in 1978.
