Horst Arnold (* 8. April 1962 in Aschaffenburg ) is a German politician of the SPD , since 2008 Member of the Bavarian Parliament and chairman since 2018 of the Bavarian SPD parliamentary group.

Life

Horst Arnold studied law at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg from 1982 to 1989 . From 1989 to January 2, 1992 he was a trainee lawyer at the Nuremberg Higher Regional Court. From March 1, 1992 to August 14, 1999, he was a public prosecutor at the Nuremberg Public Prosecutor's Office, after which he was a judge at the Fürth district court until he took office as a member of the state parliament on October 20, 2008 .

Arnold has been a member of the SPD since May 1, 1978 . From 1992 he was deputy district chairman of the SPD Fürth, since 2002 he has been its chairman. After an unsuccessful candidacy in 2003, he was elected to the Bavarian Landtag in the 2008 state elections via the SPD's constituency list Middle Franconia , to which he has been a member since then. In the state parliament he is a member of the committees for law, constitution and parliamentary issues as well as for food, agriculture and forestry. Since 2013 Arnold has also been the agricultural policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group.

At the end of September 2012, it became known that Arnold was suffering from an alcoholic disease and wanted to go into therapy, so his nomination for the state parliament was suspended. He has overcome the disease. In January 2013 he was nominated again as a direct candidate in the district of Fürth, Oberasbach, Stein and Zirndorf for the Bavarian State Parliament. In addition, Arnold has been deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group since July 2017. In addition, during the 17th legislative period of the Bavarian state parliament, Arnold was chairman of the committee of inquiry into the "model building affair" of the former state chancellery head Christine Haderthauer (CSU).

On November 11, 2017, Arnold was nominated again as a direct candidate by the SPD district association Fürth for the state election on October 14, 2018 . With the highest total number of votes of the SPD applicants in the constituency of Middle Franconia, he again entered the state parliament.

On October 25, 2018, he was elected to succeed Markus Rinderspacher as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. He prevailed in the third ballot with 13 to eight votes against Florian von Brunn , after two tied votes had previously prevailed. Arnold is also a member of the Parliamentary Control Committee and a member of the Judges' Election Commission.

Arnold lives in Fürth . His parliamentary office is at Hirschenstrasse 24.
