Agrotóxico (in German: pesticides ; literally: agricultural poison ) is a hardcore band from São Paulo , Brazil .

Band history

Agrotóxico was founded in 1993 by Mauro (bass, vocals), Marcos (guitar) and Edu (drums) in Cidade Ademar, São Paulo. After a few gigs, Edu left the band to start a metal band and was replaced by Silvio Lombrigão. In addition, the band grew into a quartet with bassist Jeferson. Committed to do it yourself , the band founded the Som de Rua festival and organized gigs in squatted houses and abandoned factories in São Paulo and the surrounding area. The band first released the two demos Sindicato do Crime and Decadência . Then André joined the band for Lombrigão. In this line-up, the debut album Caos was created in 1998 on the band's own independent label Red Star Recordings . Fabio Sampaio from Ohlo Seco was a guest singer . The album itself was produced by Heros Trench and Luís Abbondanza. Marcas da Revolta , which was played on Brazilian radio and music television, developed into one of her most famous songs . In 2001 the album was reissued by the German label Dirty Faces .

Then Ohlo Seco played her first European tour, at which time three of the four members also played with this band. Accordingly, Agrotóxico also released a tribute album to Ohlo Seco, on which Ação Direta , Caliber 12 , Força Macabra (from Finland) and Cólera were also represented. The album was also released on vinyl through Dirty Faces.

After the Ohlo Seco tour, Agrotóxico toured Brazil with Varukers . Mauro left the band to earn his living as an ultimate fighter and Thai boxer . At first Marcos took over the vocals and the band continued as a trio. Eventually Renato joined the group. This debuted on a tour with Rasta Knast and Rystetiit .

Not long after that there was another line-up change. Drummer André took over the drums on the second album Estado de Guerra Civil . Pedro von Kaos 64 joined the band as a new member and accompanied the band on their first European tour, which took the band through Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and Hungary. She played with Total Chaos and Rasta Knast, among others . With the latter they released the split album Marcas da Revolta , on which Rasta Knast recorded five Brazilian punk and hardcore songs and Agrotóxico contributed five German punk songs. The album was released on Nasty Vinyl . An appearance at the punk festival "O Fim do Mundo" hit the headlines in Brazil in 2002. The Brazilian pop star Supla visited the band backstage, which aroused the displeasure of around 1500 punk fans present. It was reported in various national media.

In 2007 the album Libertação was released , in 2009 a split EP with the German hardcore punk band Rawside and in 2013 the last album XX . In 2010 a DVD with a documentary about the band including a live CD was released.

Jeferson and Arthur von Agrotóxico have also played with the street punk band Flicts since 1996 . The two groups released a split album in 2004. In 1998 Agrotóxico bassist Jeferson and Marcos founded the record label Red Star Recordings, on which albums by Agrotóxico , Cólera, DOA , Flicts, Ratos de Porão, The Gee Strings, Rasta Knast and numerous other bands have been released. In early 2000 three of the four members also played for Ohlo Seco.
