Canal Terror (also Canalterror ) was a German punk band from Bonn , which was founded in 1980.

history

In 1980 the founding members Tommy, Volker and Dominik were between 15 and 17 years old; in the following year, the then 14-year-old Rainer Banse joined as drummer.

In 1981 the first demo recordings and a Super 8 film appeared, on which they presented their later most popular song Public Enemy for the first time . In December the band participates in the sampler soundtracks for Downfall 2 of Aggressive Rock Productions (AGR). Canal Terror also played their first concerts outside of Cologne and Bonn this year , with Black Flag , Minutemen , Slime and OHL , among others . More demo tapes were released in the following two years.

In December 1982 the LP Too Late for AGR was recorded, but was not released until spring 1983 due to differences with label boss Karl-Ulrich Walterbach regarding the track list.

In 1983 Tommy left the band after internal disputes and Rainer switched to the microphone. Ex- Toxoplasma bassist Stefan joined the band as the new drummer. With Frank Glienke ("KutA") a second guitarist was brought on board for some concerts, but "KutA" left the band very soon. The group performed with Razzia , Inferno , Neurotic Arseholes , Boskops , the Doctors and Toxoplasma and the recordings for the sampler "Underground Hits 2" were made. Later there were disputes, whereupon first Dominik and then Volker left the band. Canal Terror was continued by Rainer and Stefan with other members until 1984. The song "Staatsfeind" was released in a live version on the Dutch sampler " Babylon sucht Fahrt" before the band finally broke up.

In December 1991 the band gave a one-time concert in the Biskuithalle in Bonn with almost the original line-up , together with Toxoplasma , Die Skeptiker and the British band Urge.

In 1992, the recordings of the Reunion concert from the previous year were released under the title Canal Terror - Live in Bonn . The LP Too late has now also been reissued as a CD by AGR. Also on Aggressive Rockproduktionen the first part of the sampler Deutschpunk Kampflieder appeared with three titles by Canal Terror, which were renamed and the band had not given their consent to the publication. In a lawsuit against AGR, the band secured the rights to their songs.

1997 saw the official re-release of the debut titled Saufbauch from the sampler Bollocks to the Gonads - Here's the Testicles as a bonus.
