The election for the 5th Bavarian State Parliament took place on November 25, 1962. The turnout was 76.5%.

Starting point and result

There was a 10% threshold at the district level , i.e. H. a party had to achieve 10% of the valid votes in at least one of the districts in order to enter the state parliament.

For the first time since 1946 , the CSU regained an absolute majority of the mandates, but under the newly elected Prime Minister Alfons Goppel entered into a coalition with the Bavarian Party for the new legislative period . Goppels defeated opponent Volkmar Gabert took over the office of leader of the opposition with the office of SPD parliamentary group chairman . The GDP did not succeed in overcoming the 10% hurdle in an administrative district, but the BP in Lower Bavaria did.
