State election in Bavaria 1994
The election for the 13th Bavarian State Parliament took place on September 25, 1994. The turnout was 67.8%.
Starting point and result
It was the first state election under Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber ( Cabinet Stoiber I ) , who has been in office since June 1993 . Stoiber took office after Max Streibl (Prime Minister since the death of Franz Josef Strauss) resigned in the course of the Amigo affair .
The CSU was able to defend the absolute majority of the votes with 52.8%; this was her worst state election result since 1966 . The SPD , which had achieved its worst result in Bavaria in 1990 , was able to improve to 30.0% with Renate Schmidt as the new top candidate. The GREENS scored 6.1%.
The FDP missed with 2.8% the renewed entry into the parliament clear. The Republicans , who in 1990 only narrowly failed the five percent hurdle with 4.9% , came up with 3.9% and - as in 1990 - achieved the best result of those parties that failed to make it into the state parliament. The ÖDP received 2.1 percent (its best result in a state election). The Bavarian party had its best result since 1970 with 1.0% and came just in the area of state party financing .
