The election for the 10th Bavarian State Parliament took place on October 10, 1982. The turnout was 78.0%.

Starting point and result

In 1982, a two-party parliament with the CSU and the SPD was established for the first and so far only time in Bavaria .

The FDP had been represented in the state parliament since 1946 (except from 1966 to 1970 ) and this time clearly missed re-entry after the break of the social-liberal coalition in the federal government three weeks earlier.

This state election was the first Bavarian state election to which the Greens and the ÖDP, which had split off from them, ran . Neither of them made it into the state parliament. The ÖDP did not achieve this later either, in contrast to the Greens, who established themselves in the state parliament from the next election .

For the CSU, Prime Minister Franz Josef Strauss ran again as the top candidate and, as in the previous election, was challenged by the SPD state and parliamentary group chairman Helmut Rothemund .
