Patriotic Union (Germany)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vaterländische Union (short name: VU ) was a German right-wing extremist party that was only active in Bavaria . It was founded in 1949 and was absorbed into the National Democratic Party of Germany in 1966 .

history

The VU was founded in the spring of 1949 by Karl Feitenhansl . The party received a license for the city of Munich and quickly attracted attention with extremely nationalist statements. In September and October 1949, party events were blown up by counter-demonstrators. At the beginning of 1950, chairman Feitenhansl was temporarily banned from any political activity due to neo-fascist statements, and in June 1950 he was imprisoned for four days.

For the state elections in Bavaria in 1950 , representatives of the VU took part in the voting block for the war victims-displaced persons-disenfranchised , which was organized by supporters of Otto Strasser . The electoral bloc reached 0.57%.

The VU ran for the first time in 1953 for the Bundestag election , but only presented direct candidates in Bavaria who received a total of 0.05% of the first votes in Bavaria. In the state elections in Bavaria in 1954 , VU received 0.14% of the vote. The 1957 federal election was also unsuccessful, with VU receiving 0.08% of the vote in Bavaria. In 1962, a final attempt was made in the state elections , with 0.05% of the vote, it was again the weakest party.

In 1966, the VU was incorporated into the NPD, which moved into the Bavarian state parliament in the same year .
