Alexandra Hildebrandt (artist)
Alexandra Hildebrandt (born February 27, 1959 in Kiev ) is a German artist, author, human rights activist and director of the Wall Museum .
Life
Alexandra Hildebrandt (birth name: Alexandra Weissmann) began studying art in 1986. As a freelance artist, she had her first exhibition in Berlin in 1990 .
In Berlin she met Rainer Hildebrandt . In 1991 she moved to Berlin, in 1995 she married Rainer Hildebrandt and took his name. Since the death of her husband in January 2004 she has been running the Wall Museum and is the executive chairwoman of the August 13th Working Group. She became known, among other things, for the Freedom Memorial, which opened in October 2004 .
After the death of her husband in January 2004, she continued his work as director of the Wall Museum founded in 1962 - Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie and as chairwoman of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft 13. August e. V. continued. She is also President of the Rainer Hildebrandt Charitable Foundation.
Alexandra Hildebrandt's work focuses on the preservation and further development of the Wall Museum - Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie, which is self-sustaining and financed by its own resources, the rehabilitation of the victims of the GDR regime and the clarification of the fate of refugees who are at the border , which is becoming increasingly known found death between east and west . Hildebrandt has eight children, their youngest child was born in 2020. Father is the management consultant and former Berlin CDU member Daniel Dormann . The birth at the age of 61 is considered a medical sensation. Five of her children were born after Hildebrandt's 50th birthday.
According to the former Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, Hans-Dietrich Genscher , Alexandra Hildebrandt was involved in the liberation of Mikhail Khodorkovsky . After Hildebrandt asked him for support, Genscher said, he decided to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin about a possible release. Khodorkovsky had previously served 10 years in prison and received no hope of release after preparing for another trial.
