Michael Malbranc (* 11. March 1953 ) is a former German football - referee .

Career

He directed his first Bundesliga game in November 1990. In total, he made 64 Bundesliga games by 1997 , in which he had to send a player off the pitch 29 times.

The last Bundesliga game

On the 2nd matchday of the 1997/98 season, TSV 1860 Munich led against Karlsruher SC 2-1 in the 88th minute when Sean Dundee from Karlsruhe scored a goal. Although Malbranc had interrupted the game with a whistle immediately before the shot on goal, he then recognized the goal. Malbranc stated that he “had the perception that he only whistled after the goal”. Since the TV recordings confirmed the whistle before the shot on goal, the DFB set a replay. However, FIFA reprimanded the DFB and shortly thereafter overturned the judgment on the grounds that it had been a factual decision. Malbranc raised serious allegations against the then DFB President Egidius Braun , who allegedly urged him to make a false statement in order to avoid trouble with FIFA. Malbranc stuck to his portrayal and announced his resignation as DFB referee just four months after the game.

After the Bundesliga

In the fall of 1997 he was allowed to direct three second division games. Since then he has been the managing director of the HSV fan shop. He also sifts through talented referees and coaches them.
