Uwe Gospodarek (born August 6, 1973 in Straubing ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer goalkeeper .
Player career
societies
At the age of nine, Gospodarek joined SV Ascha, for which he was active until he was 15. In 1988 he moved to SSV Jahn Regensburg and a year later to the youth department of FC Bayern Munich . From the 1991/92 season he was a member of the professional squad and until 1994/95 he was substitute goalkeeper alongside Sven Scheuer . He made his Bundesliga debut on May 5, 1992 in a 2-1 defeat at Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In the following seasons he came twice for further missions. He also played in the Champions League for FC Bayern Munich .
From 1995 to 1998 he played 33 times for VfL Bochum in the 2nd Bundesliga and 49 times in the Bundesliga in the two following seasons . There he had a regular seat at times, but was eventually ousted by Thomas Ernst . In 1998 he moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern , where he was only a substitute goalkeeper behind Andreas Reinke and only played eight games in the first season. In 2000/01 he was completely without match practice and therefore moved to the Regionalliga Süd for SSV Jahn Regensburg . There he became a regular goalkeeper from January 2002 and helped the club through outstanding performances to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in the summer of 2003. After differences with the board, however, to the chagrin of the Regensburg fans, he switched to the second division club SV Wacker Burghausen . There he was team captain and due to his experience undisputed.
However, Burghausen rose at the end of the 2006/07 season in the regional league, which is why Gospodarek decided to move to the second division Borussia Mönchengladbach . At Borussia he was a substitute goalkeeper behind Christofer Heimeroth . He played his first competitive game for Borussia on May 18, 2008 (34th matchday) in a 3-2 win in the away game against SC Paderborn 07 and celebrated promotion to the Bundesliga on that day. In this he was again in goal on October 17, 2008 under interim coach Christian Ziege . Hans Meyer , who has coached Gladbach since October 18 , relied on him as the goalkeeper until Logan Bailly was signed in December 2008. On April 22, 2009, Mönchengladbach and Gospodarek prematurely terminated the contract, which originally ran until 2010, by mutual agreement. In September 2009 he temporarily ended his career and became a goalkeeping coach at his ex-club Wacker Burghausen .
After the death of Robert Enke , Hannover 96 was looking for an experienced substitute goalkeeper to keep Florian Fromlowitz 's back free. At the age of 36, Gospodarek revised his retirement and signed a contract dated to the end of the season in December 2009. At the end of the season he finally ended his active career and became goalkeeping coach of the U-21 national team for the DFB .
National team
On October 20, 1992 (1: 1 against Mexico), on December 8, 1992 (1: 2 against Denmark) and on January 13, 1993 (2: 2 against Turkey) Gospodarek played in the U20 national team . On November 16, 1993 he made his debut in the U21 national team , which won 2-0 in Koblenz against the selection of Luxembourg . In 1994 there were six, in 1995 eight and in 1996 three more internationals . His last he completed on March 26, 1996 in Metz in the 1: 4 defeat against the selection of France . In total, Gospodarek was in the goal of the U21 national team 18 times.
Coaching career
Gospodarek worked for Wacker Burghausen in 2009 and as a goalkeeping coach for the German U21 national team from 2010 to 2012 . From the 2012/13 season to 2018/19 he worked as a goalkeeper coach in the U16 and U17 youth teams of FC Bayern Munich.
On July 1, 2019, Gospodarek became the new goalkeeping coach at VfB Stuttgart .
