Until 2008: youth clubs

After years of youth at SKV Hähnlein, FC Alsbach, SC Viktoria Griesheim and SV Darmstadt 98 , Rode switched to the youth department of Kickers Offenbach in July 2005 .

2008–2010: Kickers Offenbach

From the 2008/09 season Rode trained with the professionals of Kickers Offenbach in the 3rd division and came in his first season to two substitutions. In the 2009/10 season he developed into a regular player, but only came to 13 season appearances because he had torn a cruciate ligament in his right knee in September 2009 .

2010–2014: Eintracht Frankfurt

For the 2010/11 season , Rode signed a contract with arch rivals Eintracht Frankfurt that ran until the summer of 2014 . After he had cured a cartilage damage in his left knee in September 2010 , he made his debut on January 21, 2011 (19th match day) in the 0-1 defeat in the away game against Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga . Rode scored his first Bundesliga goal on April 23, 2011 (31st match day) in a 1-1 draw at home against FC Bayern Munich with the opening goal in the 54th minute. At the end of the season, Eintracht was relegated from the Bundesliga, but he stayed with the club despite offers from other Bundesliga clubs. In the second Bundesliga he played 33 league games in the following season , scored two goals, provided ten assists and thus made a significant contribution to the direct return to the Bundesliga. There, too, Rode was able to maintain his regular position and qualified with Eintracht as sixth in the table for the Europa League , in which he reached the sixteenth-finals in five own appearances with the team . At the end of February 2014, Rode suffered cartilage damage in his right knee and was out until the end of the season.

Rode scored his first goal for Munich on November 22, 2014 (12th matchday) in a 4-0 win at home against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim with the final score in the 87th minute. In the Champions League, he scored his first goal on December 10, 2014 with his goal to make it 2-0 in his team's 3-0 victory over CSKA Moscow . With Bayern, Rode was German champion in 2015 and won the double of the championship and DFB Cup in 2016 , but was never able to prevail as a regular player.

2016–2018: Borussia Dortmund

For the 2016/17 season , Rode moved to Borussia Dortmund and signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2020. He scored his first goal for BVB on September 17, 2016 in a 6-0 win in the league game against SV Darmstadt 98 . He was only able to play in the DFL Supercup against FC Bayern. After a one-year break, he played in the second team's game against Rot-Weiss Essen in the Regionalliga West on November 6, 2018 in the BVB jersey.
