history

Foundation of numerous Griesheim football clubs and the great merger (1905–1919)

In 1905 some members from the gymnastics community founded their own club, the 1905 Griesheim soccer club. The first chairman of this association was Heinrich Wildmaier. Shortly after it was founded, the 1905 Griesheim soccer club was able to provide two teams. The venue of this newly founded club was on the so-called shooting range, where the Eberstädter Weg is today. Due to the lack of financial resources, games were played against teams from other locations, but these did not take place under the care of the association. In 1906, the football club was dissolved in 1905 and the football club was founded in 1906 after a dispute arose. Today this is generally considered to be the founding date of Griesheim football. In 1908, another football club, the so-called Sportclub 08, was founded, which had a considerable number of players.

In 1913, the 08 sports club and the 1906 Griesheim soccer club merged to form the Victoria Griesheim sports club. With that merger, the admission and the right to play for the South German Football Association were applied for. The first chairman of the new association was Max Meyer. With the outbreak of World War I, gaming operations in southern Germany almost came to a standstill.

Development after the First World War (1919–1938)

After the First World War, the Victoria Griesheim sports club was one of the top teams in southern Germany. The 1st chairman at this time was Christian Müller. A sports area with a small wooden grandstand was even built on the 'little mosque'. The leading position was lost in the 1930s and the Griesheim footballers rose to the district level. After Christian Müller died unexpectedly, Ludwig Fiedler took over the post of first chairman, in 1935 Peter Friedmann took over the management of Griesheim football.

Football in the times of National Socialism (1938–1945)

At the time of the National Socialist dictatorship, all sports clubs from Darmstadt-Griesheim were forcibly merged and the SC Viktoria, the gymnastics community and the gymnastics society formed the community for physical exercises (GfL for short). The football activities soon came to a standstill.

Football at the district and district level (1946–1976)

After the end of the Second World War, a sports club was founded again, which was called Freie Sport und Kulturgemeinde (FSKG for short). In 1948 this club was renamed the gymnastics and sports club (TuS for short). The footballers of this branch-rich club decided in 1950 to found an independent club, which was called 'SC Victoria Griesheim' based on the tradition. The first team started in the lowest class and made it into the district league in 1957, from which they were relegated again directly in the following season. Only in the 1964 season succeeded in returning to the district league.

In 1970 the sports center was built on the Hegelsberg, with three sports fields and a club restaurant. What is special is that the changing rooms are located under the club restaurant. For the inauguration of this area in 1971, the then second division club FC Gütersloh came to the Griesheimer Hegelsberg. Thanks to continuous work in the youth sector and few departures, the club was promoted to the group league in 1973. The building contractors Funk and Allers, as major sponsors, made a lasting contribution to the development and strengthening of the team.

Promotion and establishment in the Oberliga Hessen (1977–1987)

In 1977 he was promoted to the league, the top amateur class at the time. For the ascent, the city was rewarded, among other things, with the grandstand that can still be seen today on the Hegelsberg, which can seat around 3000 people. The league games aroused a great regional and media distance, so that often 1000 to 2000 people attended the games. The team was taken over by the former professional footballer Horst-Dieter Strich, who formed a team that played in the upper league for the top places.

The most successful year of SC Victoria Griesheim (1981)

In 1981 the first team won the Hessian championship title for amateurs with a 2-1 away win at VfB Giessen. Due to the newly established single track of the 2nd Bundesliga, however, there was no right of promotion. Instead of promotion, the Griesheim team took part in the German Amateur Championship, but were eliminated in the first round against the amateurs of 1. FC Cologne. They also qualified for the first round of the DFB Cup due to the vice-cup victory in the Hessian state cup. In the first round they won against the amateurs of Hamburger SV with 8: 2, the last stop was in the second round, where the home game at Hertha BSC was lost with 2: 6. In addition to the sporting successes, the club also celebrated its 75th anniversary. In this context there was, among other things, a friendly match against FC Bayern Munich.

Due to a lack of sporting success in the league, the average number of spectators decreased to around 250 payers per game.

Athletic decline (1988-2002)

In the 1987/1988 season the team was relegated to the national league. After two seasons, a newly formed team with numerous players from their own youth managed to return to the Oberliga Hessen. Due to the increasing professionalization of other clubs and a lack of financial resources, the team immediately descended back into the national league.

In Griesheim they said goodbye to the larger football map after 27 years and entered the regional league for the 1999/2000 season. In the 2001/2002 season, the return to the national league was realized. In the first season after the return, the jump to the relegation rank three succeeded, but in the relegation to the Oberliga SC Victoria Griesheim could not prevail. In the 2002/2003 season they sat down in the table just before Germania Ober-Roden and thus achieved the return to the league.

Griesheim football in the 21st century (2003 - present)

In the upper league season 2003/2004 one could not prevail against well-known opponents such as FSV Frankfurt , Hessen Kassel , Borussia Fulda , SV Darmstadt 98 and the amateurs of Eintracht Frankfurt and was relegated from the start of the season.

The spectacle of the season already took place on the 6th match day, when the neighbor SV Darmstadt 98 as the leader of the table at Hegelsberg handed in his calling card and won the game 1-0 in front of 4500 spectators.

In the 2005/2006 season, the team reached 5th place in the regional league, one season later, fourth place in the centenary year 2006 was determined.

After a total of six seasons in the state league, or from the 2008/09 season renamed the sixth league in Verbandsliga Süd, SC Victoria Griesheim rose to the Hessenliga in the 2011/12 season. With 18 points ahead of the runner-up Kickers Obertshausen , this ascent was a great success. The Griesheimers had to accept only five defeats and three draws this season, the remaining of the 34 games were all won. In the first league season since relegation in 2004, the Griesheimers occupied 10th place in the midfield and achieved 50 points in 34 games. From now on, league football should be regularly offered on Hegelsberg again. With the ex-professional Angelo Barletta , Griesheim signed a well-known coach. It was exciting in the relegation battle of the 2014/15 season, in which Griesheim was able to secure the top division with four points difference to the first relegated FC Ederbergland . In the second season under Barletta's direction, Griesheim reached eighth place in the secured midfield. After the season Angelo Barletta moved to the Hessen League competitor FC Bayern Alzenau . From July 1, 2016, Griesheim signed Suat Türker as the new coach. After one and a half mixed years, he was released from his duties in October 2017. Interim coach Peter Seitel led the team to relegation in 2018. On matchday 31, the Darmstadt district club was still on a relegation zone, but a 3-2 home win against Buchonia Flieden on matchday 32 left the Griesheimers one point ahead of the relegation zone. Despite a hefty 1: 6 swatter in Waldgirmes on the 33rd matchday, this lead was not given up, as they won 2-1 against KSV Baunatal on the 34th matchday .

For the 2018/19 league season, Richard Hasa took over as coach of the first team. The 2020/21 season will be his third as a senior executive.
