The SV Rot-Weiß Walldorf is a sports club from the southern Hessian city of Mörfelden-Walldorf, founded in 1914 . In the history of today's popular sports club, football players in particular played an important role. Appeared only once before 1945, in 1931/32, in the top division, the team played in the top Hessian league for four years from 1951 after the Second World War. At the end of the 1980s, the club returned to higher-class football, from 1988 to 1995 Red-White played in the Oberliga Hessen . In addition to soccer, the sports table tennis and bowling are operated at SV Rot-Weiß .

History of the football department

The association was founded in 1914 as FV Viktoria Walldorf , the date of foundation is January 1st. Due to the outbreak of the First World War in the same year, the team did not participate in association games in the first five years of its existence, it was not until 1918 that it was accepted into the South German Football Association , and FV Viktoria began playing for the 1919/20 season in the lowest league, the C-Class. Two years later the B-Class and in 1924 the A-Class had been reached. In 1927, the football club was renamed SV Rot-Weiß Walldorf and in the same year it was promoted to the Starkenburg district league, which meant that it was at the second highest level in German football at the time. In 1930, when Viktoria Urberach failed in the decider , the team rose the following year for the 1931/32 season to the Main / Hessen district league and played in a league with clubs such as FSV Mainz 05, Wormatia Worms and Darmstadt 98. After only one year, the soaring ended with the descent into the second class. In the years of the Second World War, gaming operations largely ceased.

After the war a new start was made at the second highest amateur level. In 1949/50 the promotion to the top Hessian league was only just missed, the following year succeeded under player-coach "Bubi" Armbruster, a native of Walldorf, who had previously played for FSV Frankfurt for a long time, finally succeeded. In addition to Armbruster, the left wing and Hessen selection player Schubert, striker Schäfer and center runner Fischer were among the pillars of the team. The “red-whites” could only hold their own in the amateur upper house for four years. After relegation in 1955, the team broke up and there followed a crash into the A-class, which was, however, cushioned by the direct return to the 2nd amateur league. Until 1965 they stayed in the fourth highest level, in that year the SC Rot-Weiß said goodbye to national football for two decades with the non-qualification for the new group league.

The renewed rise of the Red-Whites from 1986 is closely connected with the name Heinz Wulf. The ambitious new trainer from Sindlingen succeeded in integrating young talent into the squad within a short period of time and building a powerful team through targeted reinforcements from outside, such as goalkeeper Jetter from FSV Frankfurt, goal scorer Erich Rodler, who also came from Sindlingen, and Folker Liebe. As early as 1988, he was promoted to the Oberliga Hessen . As the "cheapest team in the league", the Wulf-Elf performed well over several seasons in the Hessian upper house, which was mainly due to the youth work and the care of the second and third teams as well as a few newcomers who were able to compensate for the loss of high performers . In the 1991/92 season they were even leaders on matchday three and briefly in contact with the 2nd Bundesliga. With the eighth place in the table at the end of the round in this and the following season, Rot-Weiß Walldorf reached the zenith of the recent past. Coach Wulf left the club in 1992, and under his successors Dieter Menzel, Timo Zahnleiter and Jürgen Sparwasser , the descent into the lower divisions began. In 1995 you found yourself in the regional league, 1996 in the district league and 1997 in the district league, then you almost fell into the district league. Under Holger Anthes , SV Rot-Weiß returned to the regional league in 2002 and only missed the league in 2004 as a runner-up in the relegation. In 2011, the runner-up in the Darmstadt group league and three wins in the relegation round finally made it to the second highest Hessian league, the Association League Hessen South . As 15th in the table, the red-whites had to go into relegation again at the end of the season, unfortunately the class could not be held. There followed 6 years in the group league, until the championship title was won again at the end of the 2017/18 season. In the following season, coach Martin Max managed the second championship in a row with the Red-Whites and in 2019 the march through and the return to the Hessen League, which Walldorf last belonged to in 1995. The fact that both the A-Juniors and the B-Juniors of the club compete in the Hesse junior leagues speaks for the good youth work in the club.
