Änis Ben-Hatira ( Arabic أنيس بن حتيرة, DMG Anīs b. Ḥatīra ; * July 18, 1988 in Berlin ) is a German - Tunisian soccer player. The midfielder has been under contract with Karlsruher SC since the end of January 2020 . After appearances for the German junior national teams, he played a total of 12 senior international matches for Tunisia between 2012 and 2016 .

Ben-Hatira grew up in the West Berlin district of Wedding and started playing football at the Berlin club BSC Reinickendorf when he was four . At the age of eight he was brought to the Reinickendorfer Füchsen after he had been observed by the Füchse's youth trainers holding up a ball or juggling.

In 1999 he went to the youth department of Hertha BSC . In the B youth he switched to Tennis Borussia Berlin .

2006 - Hamburger SV

In October 2005, FC Bayern was very interested in Ben-Hatira. After a call from Hermann Gerland, Ben-Hatira was in Munich, even the boarding room intended for him was shown to him. But in the end he decided to move to the Hanseatic city. In January 2006 he was hired by Hamburger SV , which paid TeBe a training allowance of € 25,000 for Ben-Hatira . Before the 2006/07 season , Ben-Hatira signed a professional contract with HSV. He made his first appearance in the Bundesliga on February 24, 2007 in a 3-1 win at home against Eintracht Frankfurt , when he came on for Mehdi Mahdavikia in the 76th minute. He played his first Bundesliga game from the start on April 1, 2007 in a 1-0 home win against VfL Wolfsburg , in which he was substituted for Alexander Laas in the 81st minute. During the season he was used three more times in the Bundesliga. On April 7, 2007, he was in the 2: 4 defeat in the home match against VfB Stuttgart by referee Lutz Wagner in the 34th minute with a red card sent off after he Matthieu Delpierre had fouled; then he was banned from the sports court of the German Football Association for three games. In May 2007 he extended his contract with HSV prematurely until 2012. By the winter break of the 2008/09 season he played 39 times in the Regionalliga team and scored ten goals.

2009 - Between Hamburg and Duisburg

In February 2009 Ben-Hatira moved on loan to MSV Duisburg , where he should get more match practice. On March 2, 2009, in the 2-1 win in the away game against Alemannia Aachen , he came on for Marcel Heller in the 77th minute and scored the winning goal six minutes later. Overall, Ben-Hatira came to 13 appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga , in which he scored two goals.

After the loan period expired, Ben-Hatira initially returned to Hamburger SV for the 2009/10 season. Under Bruno Labbadia , he started on August 6, 2009 in the 1-0 defeat by Randers FC in the second leg of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League .

At the end of August 2009, Ben-Hatira switched to MSV Duisburg again on loan. He came on his second guest appearance on 16 second division appearances, in which he scored one goal.

For the 2010/11 season Ben-Hatira returned to HSV. On November 27, 2010, Ben-Hatira made his comeback at HSV in the Bundesliga: He came on for Tunay Torun in a 4-2 home win against VfB Stuttgart . 2011 - Hertha BSC

For the 2011/12 season, Ben-Hatira moved from HSV to Hertha BSC . No information was given about the replacement modalities. Ben-Hatira signed a contract until June 30, 2015 and was given the shirt with the number 17. On September 10, 2011, he made his debut for Hertha in the 3-1 defeat in the away game against Borussia Dortmund . He scored his first goal for Berlin on March 24, 2012 in a 3-1 win in the away game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 . On May 5, 2012 he scored two goals in a Bundesliga match for the first time. He was instrumental in the 3-1 home win against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . With the win, the Bundesliga climber secured a place in the relegation to remain in this division. Ben-Hatira played a total of 70 games for Hertha BSC until 2015 and scored 14 goals.

2016 - Eintracht Frankfurt

In February 2016, Ben-Hatira moved to league competitor Eintracht Frankfurt , with whom he signed a contract that was valid until the end of the season. On March 19, 2016 he became the match winner when he scored the 1-0 winning goal in the 33rd minute in his third league game for the Frankfurt team in the home game against Hannover 96 . After his contract expired, Ben-Hatira left the club at the end of the season.

2016 - SV Darmstadt 98

In August 2016, Ben-Hatira was signed by league competitor SV Darmstadt 98 . On the 8th matchday of the 2016/17 season , he scored his first goal for Darmstadt 98 in the game against VfL Wolfsburg with a directly converted free kick . In January 2017, Darmstadt 98 and Ben-Hatira separated by mutual agreement. Previously (at the end of 2016) it became known that Ben-Hatira had campaigned for several water projects through the Ansaar International organization . The organization advertised itself with Ben-Hatira on its homepage. Ansaar International will u. a. observed by the constitution protection authorities of North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria and classified as Salafist or closely interwoven with Salafist groups. This financial support therefore met with sharp criticism from several media and the Hessian Interior Minister Peter Beuth ( CDU ). Beuth called on the club to set “clear limits”.

2017 - Via Turkey and Tunisia to Hungary

On January 31, 2017, Ben-Hatira moved to the Turkish first division club Gaziantepspor . He received a contract until the end of the 2016/17 season with the option of one more season. There he was used in 14 league games, but could not prevent relegation to the TFF 1st Lig with his two goals . The option to extend the contract remained unused, so Ben-Hatira left the club.

After Ben-Hatira had been without a club since July 2017, he joined the Tunisian record champions Espérance Tunis on September 14, 2017 , with whom he received a two-year contract.

In May 2018, he terminated his contract in Tunis and then stayed eight months without a club membership. On February 13, 2019, it was announced that Ben-Hatira had joined the Hungarian first division club Honvéd Budapest and received a contract until 2020.

2020 - return to Germany

In January 2020, Ben-Hatira returned to Germany: He joined the second division club Karlsruher SC , with whom he signed a contract until the end of the season .

National team

Ben-Hatira was a German U-19 national player and took part in the U-19 European Championship in 2007 . There he reached the semi-finals with the German team and was top scorer (3 goals), together with Konstantinos Mitroglou . With the U-21 national team , Ben-Hatira won the U-21 European Championship in 2009 . On February 29, 2012 Ben-Hatira made his debut in the Tunisian national team , which scored 1-1 against the selection of Peru . By 2016 he had a total of twelve international matches, and has not been considered since then.

Others

With the Bundeswehr national team he participated in the from 14 to 21 October 2007, Hyderabad ( India fourth discharged) CISM - Military World Games in part. The football tournament was over for him and his team after a 1-1 draw against Cameroon and a 3-1 defeat against North Korea after the preliminary round.

Ben-Hatira has a twin sister, a brother eight years older who plays football for TSG Neustrelitz , and a younger brother.

He is a founding member of the Children's Sports Foundation of the former Bundestag member Jörn Thießen .

In April 2016, Änis Ben-Hatira published a picture of himself on social media channels in which he could be seen with doping agents and which triggered an investigation by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). The case was discontinued after a negative doping test in June.
