Jörn Thießen (born December 15, 1961 in Kellinghusen ) is a former German politician ( SPD ). From 2005 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag and from September 2007 to 2009 sect commissioner of the SPD parliamentary group. The studied theologian is currently head of the Faculty for Politics, Strategy and Social Sciences at the Bundeswehr Leadership Academy .

education and profession

After graduating from the Kaiser-Karl-Schule in Itzehoe in 1981 , Thießen studied Protestant theology , German and the history of medicine in Kiel and Berlin , which he completed in 1992 with the first theological exam. In addition to his studies, Thießen worked for the SPD parliamentary group in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament from 1985 to 1987 and in the representative office of the then opposition leader Björn Engholm . After Engholm was elected Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein , Thießen was his personal advisor and deputy office manager from 1988 to 1992.

From 1992 to 1994 Thießen was an assistant at the Institute for Systematic Theology at the Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel and at the same time did his vicariate in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld . In 1994, after his exams, he was ordained as a pastor .

In 1997 Thießen became an employee in the office of the then chairman of the SPD parliamentary group , Rudolf Scharping . After Scharping was appointed Federal Minister of Defense after the Bundestag election in 1998 , Thießen initially became his personal advisor and later also took over the management of the ministerial office. After Scharping was released in July 2002, Thießen also left the Ministry of Defense. From 2002 to 2005 he was director and professor of the Social Science Institute of the Bundeswehr (SOWI) in Munich. In 2010 he became head of the human and social sciences department and director of the Federal Armed Forces Leadership Academy (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. After the management academy has been reorganized, he heads its Faculty for Politics, Strategy and Social Sciences. He is also Deputy President of the Scientific Forum for International Security (WIFIS) there.

Thießen is married and has three children.

Political party

Thießen joined the SPD in 1979. From 1980 to 1985 and from 1986 to 1988 he was a member of the state board of the Jusos in Schleswig-Holstein, including several years as deputy state chairman.

From 2005 to 2009 Thießen was a member of the German Bundestag and since September 2007 sect commissioner of the SPD parliamentary group. He was on the Defense Committee . As it became known in 2009, Thießen had a seat on the Presidium of the German Defense Technology Society , which he had not reported to the Bundestag.

Positions

Because of the ever-falling voter turnout, Thießen is demanding - as in Belgium , for example - that voting is subject to criminal penalties in Germany. He justifies this with the obligation of the elected parliamentarians for their part to have to vote in parliament.
