Ralf Zoll

Ralf Zoll (born March 10, 1939 in Darmstadt ) is a German sociologist , peace and conflict researcher .

Life

Zoll was born in 1939 as the son of music teacher Paul Zoll . He studied sociology, economics and psychology a. a. with Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer at the University of Frankfurt am Main . After that he was an assistant. In 1968 he set up a seminar research institute with Thomas Ellwein . In 1971 he was with Ludwig von Friedeburg at the Philosophical Faculty with the dissertation Aggression and Consumer Society. About the causes and motives of human behavior in traffic to the Dr. phil. PhD.

In 1970 he came to the scientific institute for education in the armed forces in Munich . He was appointed director and professor in 1973. In 1974 he took over the management of the Social Science Institute of the Bundeswehr (SOWI), which received international attention. He also became a member a. a. of the Working Group Military and Social Sciences , the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces and Society , the International Society of Political Psychology and the International Sociological Association . In 1986 he was founding president of the European Research Group on Military and Society (ERGOMAS).

From 1983 to 2004 he was Professor of Applied Sociology at the Institute for Sociology at the Philipps University in Marburg , where he was responsible for establishing the then unique course in “ Peace and Conflict Research ”. In 2001 he was the founding director of the local interdisciplinary center for conflict research, which he headed until 2004.

In 2004 he became head of the urban development working group in Gemünden . At the end of 2012, he resigned from this honorary position because, due to the municipal financial situation as a result of cuts in key allocations in the state of Hesse, he saw little potential to advance larger projects.

Zoll is married and has two children. He is also the author of numerous scientific works.
