From the age of twelve Marco Thiede played in the youth team of FC Augsburg . He made his debut for the first team of FCA in the 2011/12 DFB Cup when he started in the second round in a 1-0 win against RB Leipzig . With the Augsburg Reserve, he made promotion from the regional league to the Bavarian regional league in 2011/12 , with the offensive midfielder scoring 14 goals in 27 games. Thiede came to 31 games and nine goals in the following regional league season 2012/13 . In the summer of 2013 he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for SV Sandhausen . He scored his first goal on May 8, 2015 in SV Sandhausen's 4-0 away win against RB Leipzig. At the end of the 2016/17 season, Thiede's expired contract was not extended.

On September 25, 2017, he signed a contract dated June 30, 2018 with Karlsruher SC. He made his league debut for KSC on October 14, 2017 (12th matchday), when he came on as a substitute for Marc Lorenz in the 73rd minute of the 2-0 win against Würzburger Kickers . In the 3-1 home win against SpVgg Unterhaching on January 20, 2018, Thiede was in the KSC's starting line-up for the suspended Matthias Bader as a right defender. In the second half of the season he was used on the right wing in almost every game and reached the promotion relegation with the KSC at the end of the season, in which one failed, however, at FC Erzgebirge Aue . In the following season 2018/19 Thiede was set as a right defender and only missed a single game suspended. Through his achievements, he contributed to the fact that at the end of the season he and KSC were promoted to the second division.
