The Alfredo Di Stéfano Trophy ( Spanish Trofeo Alfredo Di Stéfano ) is an award given by the Spanish sports newspaper Marca, which honors the best player of the past Spanish football season . The trophy is named after the legendary striker Alfredo Di Stéfano , who scored 227 goals in 329 games for Real Madrid and Espanyol Barcelona between 1953 and 1966 . It was first awarded after the 2007/08 season. The record winner is Lionel Messi with seven awards.
