Roger Guerreiro (born May 25, 1982 in São Paulo , Brazil ) is a Brazilian soccer player who played for the Polish national team after his naturalization .
From 2000 to 2005 he played in his native country before moving to Spain for a short time to Celta Vigo . After another year in Brazil, Roger Guerreiro joined Legia Warsaw in Poland , for which he played until 2009. He then played in Greece for AEK Athens and has been back in Brazil since 2013 - apart from a detour in Cyprus with Aris Limassol - since 2015 for Villa Nova AC. For the Polish national team, he played 24 games and scored four goals. With the Polish selection, he took part in the 2008 European Championships in Poland and Ukraine .
Club career
Guerreiro began his career in 2000 with the Brazilian club AD São Caetano . In his native country, the left defender then worked for Corinthians São Paulo from July 2002 to the end of 2003 and then for half a year for Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . In the 2004/05 season he played for Celta Vigo in Spain . In 2006 he moved from EC Juventude to Legia Warsaw in the Polish Ekstraklasa and moved into midfield at Legia . In Poland , he played 101 league games from 2006 to 2009 and scored 19 goals. In August 2009 he moved to Greece to AEK Athens . In his first three seasons in Greece Guerreiro was a substitute and was used irregularly. Since the 2012/13 season he was a regular player and team captain .
In the summer of 2013, his contract with AEK Athens was not renewed and he was without a club until he was signed on September 28, 2013 by the Brazilian second division team Guaratinguetá Futebol . Since there were problems with the game permit for Guerreiro, he was not reported in time for the game and moved to Ribeirão Preto on January 1, 2014 to Comercial Futebol Clube , for which he took part in the state championship of São Paulo . On January 1, 2015, Guerreiro moved to Paranaguá to join the Rio Branco SC . For the 2015/16 season he returned to Europe, this time to Cyprus , where he signed a contract with first division promoted Aris Limassol . For Aris, Guerreiro played only 5 league games in the first half of the 2015/16 season and returned to Brazil in January 2016, where he signed a contract with fourth division ( Série D ) Villa Nova AC .
National team
Guerreiro received on 17 April 2008 by President Lech Kaczynski , the Polish citizenship and was in the extended squad for the Euro 2008 added. He made his international debut on May 27, 2008 against Albania in Reutlingen . A day later he was nominated for the starting XI by national coach Leo Beenhakker . In Vienna he scored his first goal for the Polish team in the second group game against hosts Austria .
