Ismael Urzaiz Aranda (born October 7, 1971 in Tudela , Navarra ) is a former Spanish football player . The striker last employed at Ajax Amsterdam was one of the most successful active football players in the Spanish Primera División with over 400 league games and more than 120 goals .

Career

The 1.88 m tall striker began his career in Real Madrid's youth . With the Spanish record champions, he made it to the second team Real Madrid Castilla and two appearances in the A-squad (1990/91 season). After several loan deals and numerous positions, he finally moved to Athletic Bilbao in 1996, where the Basque became a crowd favorite and a legendary striker. His particular strengths include his coolness and the excellent header game . After the now 36-year-old Urzaiz seemed to have lost his regular place in the past few seasons, he played and shot his way back into the first eleven in the 2006/07 round, mainly due to his doubles against Recreativo Huelva and Real Mallorca , and led the way Team already on the field several times as captain.

In the summer of 2007, Ajax Amsterdam signed the Spanish soccer player. He should act in second place behind Klaas-Jan Huntelaar . At the end of the 2007/08 season, Urzaiz finally ended his career.

National team

Urzáiz made his debut in the Spanish national team on October 9, 1996 against the Czech Republic . He has made a total of 25 appearances and eight goals (including a hat trick against Cyprus on September 8, 1999).
